African-Americans Have had An Impact On Sports →
“John Singer, a professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology and the Division of Sport Management, says “the African-American male presence in big-time college sports today cannot be ignored,” and quoting a 2000 study, notes that “statistical leaders in categories such as rushing and receiving in football, scoring and rebounding in basketball and sprints in track...

This game looks even crazier than “Dyson”. Check out the trailer on the homepage. Weird, wild, wonderful stuff.

Dyson →
About Dyson Dyson is an ambient real-time strategy game with abstract visuals. Remotely command semi-autonomous self-replicating mining machines to take over an entire asteroid belt. Sounds pretty sweet. I’m going to check it out this evening.

Machinarium game trailer/preview. I don’t really think it’s going to be that exciting of a game, but I really like the style. www.machinarium.com

Terrorism
How is religion (of any sort, really) not “terrorism”? Main Entry:ter·ror·ism Pronunciation: \ˈter-ər-ˌi-zəm\ Function: noun Date: 1795 : the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion Everything is based on changing the behavior of a large group of people due to fear of an almighty being or organization. I guess government is, as well, if we’re pointing fingers...

Reformulate Sparks?!?! →
This troubles me greatly. How can Sparks remain effective if the “spark” is removed? We’re left with stronger, but more painful alternatives, such as Joose and Four. What is the world coming to? We have to mix our own caffeinated alcholic beverages now?!

Interesting list if you’re really bored and at all curious about mascots/nicknames. There’s some strange ones. Personal favorites include: The UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, Presbyterian College Blue Hose, Williams College Ephs, and the Rhode Island School of Design Nads. In conclusion: Blue Hose Slugs Eph Nads.

Big Time College Football should loosen up.
And I don’t even mean in regards to the BCS. I’m just talking about remembering why we play sports. The WAC gets it. As do countless other small schools that don’t have a lot of success but enjoy getting to compete. The quote below (taken from ESPN.com’s Pat Forde, who I am admittedly often at odds with) illustrates this very fact: ‘Moment of the year in the WAC:...

Memories on DNA? You mean like the Bene Gesserit? Or Duncan Idaho? If you haven’t read Dune, you won’t get that. The point is, that once again, science fiction seems to have predicted something that we are only now starting to understand. The human body is a crazy place.

Steam Punks: The revolution is near →
Interesting thing of the day: Steam Powered Cars. The article highlights some very cool advancements in steam powered cars made in the early 20th century. The BMW “turbosteamer” is an old idea, but hopefully our recent fuel and economic crises will drive (no pun intended) reasearch in the field of steam and other green type fuels.
