Big Time College Football should loosen up.

And I don’t even mean in regards to the BCS. I’m just talking about remembering why we play sports. The WAC gets it. As do countless other small schools that don’t have a lot of success but enjoy getting to compete. The quote below (taken from ESPN.com’s Pat Forde, who I am admittedly often at odds with) illustrates this very fact:

‘Moment of the year in the WAC: Ball State senior Jake Erdley showing up at every Cardinals game in a panda bear outfit and a T-shirt proclaiming himself the Touchdown Panda. Erdley said he got the outfit from his aunt’s costume shop because (A) she didn’t have a cardinal and (B) “everyone likes pandas.” ‘

We should all be so lucky as the Cardinals. Who wouldn’t love to cheer for a Touchdown Panda on their team? Why stop with Pandas? Why not ride the Touchdown Tricycle, or dress as the Touchdown Wombat?
